VERSES ON SALVATION
The following verses are from the King James Bible and are some of the most cited in regard to
Salvation. Interpretation of them varies.
Belief in Jesus: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). "And there is salvation in no one
else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be
saved" (Acts 4:12).
God's love: "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died
for us." (Romans 5:8) "God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when
we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been
saved)." (Ephesians 2:4-5) "When the kindness of God our Saviour, and his love toward man, appeared
..." (Titus 3:4)
Sin separates mankind from God: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans
3:23) "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed
upon all men, for that all have sinned." (Romans 5:12) God gives eternal life because Jesus Christ
atoned for our sin: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ
our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
Saved (from sin) by asking Him for forgiveness just as we forgive others: "For if ye forgive men their
trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses,
neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:14-15)
Confession and believing: "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." — "For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans
10:9-10) "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)
Saved by baptism (you must also believe to be saved): "He that *believeth* and is baptized shall be
saved..." (Mark 16:16). "Which sometime were disobedient, when once the long-suffering of God
waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved
by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the
filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
1 Peter 3:20-21; "Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into
his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have
been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:"
(Romans 6:3-5)
Must be born again: "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man
be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." and " Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." (John 3:3-5)
What must we do?: On the day of Pentecost, Peter stood up in front of the crowd of 3000 and preached
about the death and resurrection of Jesus (Acts 2). When the crowd was convicted and asked Peter
what they needed to do he replied, "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of
you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy
Ghost." (Acts 2:38)
Saved by God's grace: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9).
The word grace is further
clarified and defined in (Titus 3:5-7) : " Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but
according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior;
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."
